There is an old axiom in the architectural and engineering community – “Get the job, get the job, get the job.” There is unfortunately in our profession a notion that one should never turn down work, and that no matter what the situation is, a design firm can somehow make any project successful. We take a different approach. Our intent is to build relationships with our clients, by gaining their trust. This can only be earned by being honest and up-front with them. We have declined numerous commissions when we have not had the proper resources available to meet the schedule and maintain the design quality to our standards.
The traditional role for
engineering firms is to listen to the Owner and meet their requirements. We
will not do that. We will challenge your presumptions, and question the logic
behind your decisions. Too many projects are designed on the basis of “that’s
how we have always done it.” We are not just your engineers, we are
your consultants. We want to be certain that you know all of your options,
and understand all the implications of your decisions. We will listen, and
ask questions until we understand your needs and goals. Then we will boil
down the technical and economic issues, and review them with you until you
can comfortably make informed decisions. We want you to invest wisely in your
infrastructure, to achieve better efficiencies and reliability.
